About my Blog and Me

What i´m trying to do is, view Movies and Episods objectively and write my own opinion. I´m not e huge fan of knowing every single background-information about a Movie and criticize the viewing experience on the facts how mutch the Movie is true to his Source. A Movie stays for it self and the Viewer can take from it what ever it has to offer. So thats it. I just write my thoughts, experience and maybe my frustration about a Movie. I hope my Readers will like it.

Black Swan (2010)

How far can you push a movie with a theme like that which seams to have no limits?

Darren Aronofsky tries things no one else would show on the big screen. Requiem for a Dream showed how controversy a movie can be and splits the audience into lovers, admires and haters. My first experience was quiet shocking with this, my first Aronofsky movie. I looked up what is a must see in terms of Movies in the 21 century. That’s about ten years ago and I found this title way up in the top list so I board it. Everybody who knows the ending has his experience with it. I´m not a Horror movie fan and can´t get quiet the hang of it how to look at these types of movies. To see a social very interesting movie almost destroys itself at the end was a complete new experience for me. I never viewed something like this before. So Requiem for a Dream is burned in my head and I would never want to miss this experience.

As you all know, the Wrestler and black swan should be one film at the beginning. But they decide it would be too much, so they spit it. For me it was the right decision. The Wrestler is a brilliant drama. Who is looking for a character driven drama with it little twists and turns should see the wrestler. Aronofsky profess that he don’t has to be shocking and ground braking every single time he gets a movie done.

So my expectations were high, very high for his new movie the black swan. So I want that movie to be good. I want it so much that it is brilliant and thrilling that I almost overlooked for what it is. When I heard so much good things about a movie it is for me personally very difficult to let the movie be and not is what I wanted to be. So I have to come myself down and the first part of the movie put me right on the ground. In parts it is almost as slow as I can take a movie like this to don’t jump up and run the hallway up and down. The theme is ballet, go with it or leave. And this is one of the many things I like about Aronofsky movies, he don’t hide something. He tells you, this is the theme, if you are up for it I show you how much more it can be. You have to take all in what he shows and sometimes throws at you like a chair witch smashes a mirror.
The second part shows you if you get it, if you are up for it or if you don´t / if you are just looking at the screen. It is very difficult to get from a good movie to a movie-experience. For me personally I just get this sucked in feeling with the Dark Knight before. And I don’t get this feeling at home like I had in the cinema. It is this big, almost intimidating, screen. And the black swan had me two or three times at this point where I can´t control my head rate for no reasons. I wrote before that I wound spoil anything and I don’t write the plot of the movie, let´s face it, everybody knows it. But I have to bend my rules a little bit to explain ad witch point I felt “fuck yes!” It was the scene in the nightclub. I don´t do drugs just alcohol if I´m up for it on parties. But this base-driven music, images and sounds really delivers the feeling of losing the track of time and place. Then Nina get´s banged with the head on a wall and this is the point where I felt to get a little bit self clearer in my head. And at the point she gets out of the club I felt this rush of the familiar feeling to almost lose it in there. This is the point witch very few movies can take me.

After this, there is no turning back. You don´t even try to solve all the puzzles who was what and what was real. That this movie get´s so strong that it doesn’t has to explain itself in front of the audience is the biggest achievement for cinema in terms of being seen by a brand of people who don’t even know that much about movies.

Mila Knuis performance was awesome. She is all what Natalie Portmans character not is and delivers extremely well. Only Portman can top her. And be sure she did. At first I wasn’t that much impressed. But there is a scene where she puts her makeup back on and she almost wipes her crying eyes out and let them laugh. And not by one wipe. First left, then right, everyone independent form each other. This image was so scary. More that the red eyes thing.
You can see I had a good time. I really hope this movie get´s noticed at the Oscars. But I also know that the Jure looks for different things in a best picture. If they show the respect and the courage that the Oscar can go to a more Art driven movie, I would be more than impressed and my feelings about the Academy Awards would chance.

I hope it gets the respect what it deserves because it is more than just a regular movie.

For me:

Don´t let us fall Superman!

Don´t let us fall Superman!

The expectations are high. Is it even possible that Nolan ideas into Snyder hands fulfill every Comicbook-fan dreams? Here are my thoughts on Superman, Batman, Nolan and Snyder.

How did we come to this Point? Snyder directs the upcoming Superman Man of Steel, Christopher Nolan is the Producer and the Story comes even from the Writer of Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, David S. Goyer. I hope I remember correctly that Goyer comes to Nolan and has a story idea for Superman who should finally work. As I heard this I was excited and afraid at the same time. Why? Because all we have seen from Goyer´s DC Story´s where brilliant but at the same time extremely risky. In collaboration with Nolan he adapts the Hero into a real world, even a world who could bin our own today. With Begins they play it really safe. Maybe to safe but I think they just had to convince the Studios that they can proceed with their idea and get the green light to make their biggest attempts jet, the Dark Knight. So what is Goyer capable of to do with the Men from Krypton? I think the answer is quiet simple. What he came up with is a Story more like the Dark Knight than Batman Begins. Here is my theory. So they present Warner the idea and they see Nolan´s commitment and even the possibility that he directs the Movie. But they don’t want to let it set with a onetime thing. The Studio wants to see that Nolan can repeat his success to reboot a franchise. So no surprise as the news came, Superman Man of Steel is going to be an origin story. And Nolan is not going to be the director. First of all, he has not the time to make the Movie but I think there is another reason. He steps back and takes the role of the producers to have one eye on his little project. I think he just wants to do another Begins story to direct. He did it with Batman just to prove that there is more to the Cape crusader than what the first Movies told and also to get the permission to make the Movie that he wanted to make. The sequel. It wound be a surprise for me if he directs the Superman sequel based on the Man of Steel. This would be the best thing what can happening for Superman.
Zack Snyder
Who can make a simple prequel based on a story by David S. Goyer? Of course Mr Snyder. Who could see that one coming. Don’t get me wrong. If it comes to simple adaptations from a Comicbook into a Movie, Zack Snyder is the guy who delivers. 300 and Watchmen are brilliant Movies if it comes to taking the page by page written story and bringing it to live. But her is my big Problem with Snyder. Goyer´s Story´s aren’t simple Comicbook adaptations. They so far off as they can be. In my perspective he takes the spirit, the core of the characters and let them show their main inspiration, motivation, and believes and at the same time fight their biggest fears. And all of that drastically in a world who could be ours now. People and characters dying with drastically effect. I don’t think there is room in this world for a Superman who we know from all the other Movies. But that can be a good think. Maybe the only think what can make a success for this franchise in this time of Moving going.

Superman can be saved?

So what can make the Audience go “WOW” in the Cinema? I think the Snyder´s Movie would not be the Movie Nolan has intended to make. So he wrote a origin story for Mr. Snyder (Comicbook like. Picture by Picture that the adaption Master don´t make anything wrong) that he can´t screw up. I think the Story has to be very simple. I´m a huge fan of the idea that we get a Superman who is old and wears the costume already for a long long time. Jon Hamm is the only one choice for the Role, in my opinion. And if you ask me, I think it would be good to have a origin part were one or two simple problems being shown and in the second part with the old Superman who has to solve this problems ones and for good. That’s all I want. Simple and smooth. Nothing with Lex trying to chance the Planet into a Kryptonite planet and please no rewinding the earth. So that’s the Movie I hope we are going to see 2012. I really hope that Nolen takes his time and makes the Movie he and Goyer had intended to make in the first place based on Snyder´s introduction. That would be a huge think for Superman. Please Nolan. Make Superman old, vulnerable but at the same time strong and kicking ass. The Dark Knight has shown what your ideas a capable to do with the experience of the Movie. I wish Superman get´s his well received Nolan interpretation in his pure self, his believes. Let him fall like Batman, but harder and deeper. He can take it. Let him rise again but realizing that he is more than a superhero. He is, and will be in all time, THE Superhero.

127 Hours (2010)

Danny Boyle´s latest attempt to prove that his slumdog wasnt a one hit wunder.
First up. I like Slumdog Millionaire quite a lot. For me the Story wasnt that mutch original but the Sets and Mood were unique in the aspekt of the Story. I dont think it was the best Movie of 2008 but, hey, who i am to judge. I liked Benjamin Button and Milk.
As i heard that Mr. Boyle new movie is based on a true Story with a Guy who´s stuck in a rock-gap i wasend that mutch excited. Because in his last Film he could work with this polished screenplay, country and many Actors who are more that motivated to prove them self. All that is missing. Instead he trys to show that he is capable to turn a true story who is just good enough for a documentery into a oscar contender. And? Has he done it?
I think so, yes. as i sad, there is not mutch to work with. But what gets out of it is almost amazing. Thanks to a grate performance by James Franco. There is not that mutch to take from this movie. You dont get the effect to think hours later about parts of the movie. But thats not what this Movie is for. You get a view of Live and all his cruel sites. But also what Lives gives you and what a Human being is caple of.
This Movie dosent have to hide anything. And thats the key i think.
For me Danny Boyle has improved. A lot!

For all who liked Into the Wild, this is your Movie

8,8 / 10

Brazil (1985)

Directed and written by Terry Gilliam.
First of all. I´m not a huge fan of Terry Gilliam Movies. Some say that his Monty Python Titels are epic and a must see. And i like those Films, don´t get me wrong, but i dont run in the next Store to have them in my DVD-Collection. So my first thoughts on the Recommendation by CivilianSnowman (who calls this movie in his top 20 of all time) were not that mutch excited. But sometimes i listen to sutch a Recommendation and throw this and that in my shopping cart at amazon. Enough piff paff talk.

I´m not going to explain the whole plot. But what you get is a futuristic retro crossover with many many satire of Society, Business, Politics and even Dreaming and Love. And if you think, this is a little bit mutch, your right. It gets to a crazy mixture and even action packed at some parts. The Effects are damn good for its time. I don´t even try to say that i get every single detail of the Movie. It get realy surreal at time. And i like that. I love those Movies like eternal sunshine of a spotless mind were you quit lose your self and just go with it. If your open to those things, this Movie delivers all that. It even twists and turns that you get a real unexpected End.
The Mix of future-style and Retro mechanical parts are amazing. I can´t get enough of the interpretation of the futuristic Computers.

So at the End, how was it?
I liked it. I liked it more than i first thougt of it. For me this Movie finds the ballance of drastical showing of political decisions, Society, cruel buisness and on the other hand, fighting for there Dreams and love, parodie and humor. Thanks to this large spectrum everyone can take something from this Film. But not everyone is open for sutch a mixture.

My rating:

7.5 / 10

Thanks for the tip. I hope my englisch is not too bad. I realy hope i can improve my reviews in the future.
